We spent Christmas in our home, it was a white Christmas and we had a good time. I prepared some of the traditional Danish Christmas food: Duck and rice pudding with cherry sauce. After dinner we opened some presents, and left some for the next morning, trying to please both the American and Colombian traditions. The 26th we started our road trip to the South. We spend the first night in Dresden, Germany. It was known as the Florence of Germany for its rich architecture. The city got bombed during WWII but there have been big efforts to restore and reconstruct it. It is a beautiful city, worth seeing. Our second stop was Prague in the Czech Republic, my favourite during this trip. It has all kind of architecture styles: Baroque, Art Nouveau, Renaissance, Gothic, NeoClassical, etc. Everywhere you walk there is a nice surprise awaiting. We didn't have time to see everything, we have to go back =) Then we headed to Salzburg, Austria, where Mozart was born. It's a nice Alpine town, with a strong Christmas feeling. We visited the house where Mozart was born, also the cemetery where his family is buried. We arrived to Munich, Germany, on the 31th, ready to celebrate the New Year. We had some bad Thai food for lunch and we ended up watching the fireworks from the hotel windows, we couldn't even toast with the champagne we got for the occasion. Nonetheless, it was remarkable, at midnight the huge bells from all the old churches were ringing and there were tons of fireworks. I couldn't help feeling nostalgic and missing my family. And our last stop was Nuremberg in Germany. It was the city where Hitler had the big rallies for the Nazi Party. As many of you know Robert has a big interest in WWII. it's really nice to travel with him around Europe because he gives me all kind of information about the towns we visit. We want to go back to Nuremberg, we only had time to visit one Museum and drive around the Medieval part of the city.

ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome trip! I love Prague too! I also was in Vienna. Love that too. It is so fun to travel. But I am too nervous about flying with a baby and luggage by myself. Why does it have to be difficult.
